Jay & Kelly Cross
Kelly and I are glad to be a part of the work that God is doing here in Peru! We moved to Puerto Maldonado, Peru in October 2016. We thank God for our daughters Alexia, Isabel, Esther, and Lilian. We are praying that they will soon repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We involve them in as many aspects of serving God as we possibly can.
Our overall mission is to participate in God’s global mission to redeem and reconcile sinners to Himself through Jesus Christ. Here in Peru, we are serving alongside of local Christians in making disciples of Jesus Christ so indigenous, reproducing churches are a continual reality in Puerto Maldonado, Peru and beyond. We are complementing the ministry of Iglesia Bautista Evangélica Vida Nueva Puerto Maldonado and other faithful servants of God here in Peru.
Puerto Maldonado is a growing city of about 100,000 people in the southeastern corner of Peru. The city is in the Amazon basin, so it is surrounded by tropical rainforest. Over the years, the gold and lumber industries have attracted people to the city. Spanish is the main language of the area. Some people from surrounding tribal communities have moved to the city looking for a better life and new opportunities. Their heart language is generally their tribal language and they often have some fluency with Spanish. Like most places in the world, the city has a mix of religions - Spiritism, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, other works-based religions, and true Christianity. The city, surrounding towns, and tribal communities throughout the jungle need a strong network of local churches that preach the truth of the Word of God.
We thank God for our home churches Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Garden, FL and Harvest Bible Church in Lancaster, PA as well as the other churches and individuals that partner with us. To learn more about how God directed us to Peru visit our ministry website www.cross2peru.com
